What Is Cychlorphine?

Cychlorphine is a synthetic opioid with effects similar to morphine and fentanyl. In recent years, it has been detected more frequently in drug seizures and overdose cases, often mixed into counterfeit pills rather than found alone.

Cychlorphine is around 10 times stronger than fentanyl.

Cychlorphine acts on opioid receptors in the brain, leading to euphoria and relaxation. It can also cause dependence and abuse.

Cychlorphine (N-Propionitrile chlorphine) is a synthetic opioid chemical compound which has been sold as a designer drug, reported in five European countries since 2024, and in the USA. It has been found in Canada as of September 2025.

It is similar in chemical structure to known opioid agonists such as brorphine and spirochlorphine, and is claimed to be an opioid with similar or slightly higher potency than fentanyl, but no pharmacological data for cychlorphine have been published.

What Are Orphine Opioids?

Orphine opioids are also known as brorphine analogues. This is a specific class of synthetic opioids that have a similar chemical structure and are structurally related to morphine. There are four brorphine opioid drugs:

  • Orphine
  • Fluorphine
  • Chlorphine
  • Idorphine

Orphine opioids are sometimes difficult to detect because many tests don’t detect these drugs. Detecting these drugs often requires specialized laboratory equipment.

Cychlorphine Vs. Fentanyl

Both cychlorphine and fentanyl are synthetic opioid drugs, but they differ in strength, medical use, risks, and how often they are used.

Fentanyl is about 50–100 times stronger than morphine. It is used in hospitals and other medical settings to treat pain. While fentanyl has legitimate medical uses, it is a major contributor to the opioid crisis. Fentanyl overdose is common due to its potency, and fentanyl is often mixed with other drugs when it is being misused.

Cychlorphine, on the other hand, has no approved medical use. Cychlorphine may be up to 10 times more potent than fentanyl. The drug is starting to be seen more frequently in drug seizures, but it is still much less common than fentanyl.

Effects Of Cychlorphine

As a synthetic opioid, cychlorphine mimics the effects of the naturally occurring opioids. It works by affecting the central nervous system and binding to opioid receptors in both the brain and spinal cord. This affects how the body senses and responds to pain. This can result in feelings of relaxation and mild euphoria.

These seemingly desirable effects can result in an increased risk of dependence and addiction. Like other opioids, regular use can result in tolerance, which increases the risk of overdose because people end up needing higher doses to achieve the same effect.

Cychlorphine is not approved for any medical use and is not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. This is largely because the medication has significant risks, including dependence, addiction, and overdose.
